From 24th October to 4th November 2014 the Biological Farming Association Elkana conducted a Survey in the villages of Upper Racha (Racha-Lechkhumi Lower Svaneti Region). The aim of the survey was to:

  • assess development perspectives for sustainable rural tourism and entrepreneurship development in the region,
  • make stakeholder mapping
  • make SWOT analysis, and
  • develop recommendations for sustainable rural tourism and entrepreneurship development in the region.

Elkana has used Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) methodology to conduct the survey. RRA can be viewed as a set of methods, enabling the rural population to obtain and analyze accurate and reliable information over a short period of time. Interviewers use semi structured questionnaires to estimate the current situation and development potential of locals.
